The Client was one who believes in the virtues of tradition, this meant that the project was to be carried out in a very specific way that held custom to the traditional beliefs and procedures of what many believed to be a sacred property. The name ‘Houkouin’ meaning ‘The Risen Phoenix’ was given to the property, symbolising its renovation as a rebirth of what it once stood as a place of high vitue and grace.
The 2 storey traditional Japanese residence with its vast garden of over 4000m2 had risen in the most competitive area in Kyoto, and was planned to be available for sale during a monumental cherry blossom season in Japan. As this was said to be a miracle for such a property to come out in the market in the centre of Kyoto. Releasing it during this period brought extra attention to it in the market. The project was treated as an exclusive property and was only open to a selected few.
